In May 2023 we were in Tanzania to try to find someone to help us recruit our first boys at the Academy. For the start in January 2023.
We have decided to make tryouts or trials where we get the chance to see the boys play football – but we also want to talk the boys as the recruitment decisions will be made holistic.
So our first aim is to find enough 10-11 year old boys to invite to the TryOuts. Here we have found at least three minor ‘academies’ to help. One in Mwanza and two in Arusha. And then we will co-operate with Future Stars Academy, which is one of the biggest ‘academies’ in the Arumeru district.
Future Stars Academy is also a NGO, founded nearly 15 years ago by Alfred Itaeli.
Itaeli himself got a scholarship in the US (Miami) – and when he returned to Tanzania 14 years later we wanted to give something back to football-boys in the Arusha area.
FSA provides football training for U5 to U20 once or twice a week. And they will have 8-10 boys who could be invited to the YBA trials.
Alfred and his coaches will also help YBA organize the tryouts in September 2023.
